TIMELINE OF BRAIR ACTIVITY


June 2020 - KorKeya, a Bexley resident organizes a community meeting at Wolfe Park, calls on neighbors to join him in dismantling systemic racism in Bexley, BRAIR is formed to address the issue of discriminatory policing in Bexley.

June 2020- BRAIR records and publishes stories of Black Bexley residents experiences with racial profiling by Bexley Police Department. The videos are shared on BRAIR's Facebook page and YouTube channel.

July 2020 - BRAIR publishes Bexley's disparity index in police stops and arrests of Black citizens compared to the Columbus Metropolitan area using city's data.

September 2020 BRAIR informs Bexley City that they are not compliant with 8 Can't Wait, Mayor Ben Kessler denies. Campaign Zero confirms with BRAIR that Bexley BPD was not compliant. Only then, do city officials change policies to become compliant.

Oct 2020- BRAIR introduces comprehensive Police Reforms and Demands to address the issue of institutional and systemic racism and discriminatory policing

April 2021- Mayor and City council rejects Problem Statement declaring discriminatory policing an issue in Bexley

October 2021 BRAIR presents its Traffic Citation Study to Bexley City Council and introduces the Good Neighbor Ordinance. The study analyzes BPD traffic citations over a 6 month period.

November 2021 BRAIR members and Bexley neighbors came out in force to a city council meeting to urge the city to adopt The Good Neighbor Ordinance. To this date the city of Bexley has not adopted one policy to dismantle institutional racism and protect Black neighbors.
