Bexley Residents Against Institutional Racism was formed in the Summer of 2020 with the purpose of dismantling systemic racism in Bexley, OH specifically to address the issue of discriminatory policing.

Through use of resident testimony and the City of Bexley’s own data, BRAIR has been able to shine a light on systemic and institutional racism in our town. We’ve published a disparity index for police stops and arrests of Black citizens and in October 2021 presented a Traffic Citation Study to Bexley City Council. The study analyzes Bexley Police Department traffic citations over a 6 month period and puts facts and data behind the known discriminatory policing in Bexley.

The following month, BRAIR members introduced their Good Neighbor Ordinances in hopes the city would adopt a policy of non-discriminatory policing.

BRAIR will continue to collect data and analyze trends to support implementation of the Good Neighbor Ordinances until change is made.
